Haralson Jail Release Paths
The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division is the county’s booking and release facility. Its staff process admissions, releases, court trips, medical movement, and other authorized transport. The jail holds people arrested on felony and misdemeanor allegations, people serving county sentences, and people waiting for transfer to prison. That mix is why a local release entry needs context. It may record bond, time served, a court-ordered release, transfer to the Georgia Department of Corrections, or movement to another sheriff.
A person who returns to the community may leave through bond, completion of a local sentence, dismissal, or another court order. Someone transferred to GDC or returned to another county has left this jail but remains confined. The arrest-date roster and sheriff record establish the local custody change. The receiving agency establishes continued custody. The Haralson County released-inmate search path brings those sources together when the destination is unclear.
| Local result | Next source |
|---|---|
| Released to community | Sheriff release record and court disposition |
| Transferred to GDC | GDC offender query |
| Another county or agency | Sheriff transfer entry and receiving agency |
| Parole or felony supervision | Parolee Search and DCS Cedartown |
Confirm a Haralson Jail Release
The Current Inmates roster answers whether a booking is active in the public view. It is not a release archive. After release, the better local screen is Inmates by Arrest Date. That page can show both Status: RELEASED and Status: CURRENTLY BOOKED. It is organized by arrest date, not release date, and the sheriff does not publish a fixed retention period or update schedule.
Use the sources in a set order. Each step answers a different question.
- Search Current Inmates to see whether the person remains booked at Haralson County Jail.
- Search by arrest date and name. Match the arrest date, charge, court, bond, and other available facts before relying on the status.
- Check Georgia VINE for a custody-change status or a notification tied to that person.
- Request the sheriff’s release or transfer record when the roster lacks the exact date, time, authority, or destination.
- Read the court disposition and, for a state transfer, search GDC to learn what followed the closed county booking.
Important: “Released” on the county roster confirms that booking is no longer active. It does not by itself prove release to the community.
Haralson Jail Release Records
The sheriff’s open-records process is the formal route for an exact release record, transfer notation, or publicly releasable booking photograph. A focused request should name the person, arrest or booking date, case number if known, and the existing items sought. Useful items include the release date and time, release type or authority, bond amount and type, destination agency, and booking photograph. Georgia agencies need not create a new explanation when no such record exists.
The request form calls for the requester’s name, phone, return address, dates, times, locations, and case numbers when available. Completed requests may be emailed to HCSORecords@haralsoncountyga.gov. Charges may apply, and the office says it will contact the requester before work proceeds when fees are due. Under O.C.G.A. 50-18-71, an agency generally responds within three business days by producing available records or explaining their availability and expected production.

GDC’s Haralson County Jail listing gives 224 Holly Street, Buchanan, GA 30113 for the jail and the same main phone. Because the public sources show two official addresses serving different functions, confirm where a visit, payment, or paper request belongs before traveling.
The official GDC location listing supplies a useful visual reference for the county jail:

That source identifies the jail, but release details still come from the sheriff roster, records staff, and court file.
Haralson Jail Custody Records
The roster supplies a strong booking snapshot. Visible fields can include a photograph or image link, name, custody status, sex, height, weight, redacted address, arrest date, arresting agency, days in jail, total bond, warrant number, count, statute, charge description, misdemeanor or felony marker, and court. A released entry observed in the arrest-date view did not show a clear release timestamp in the text display. Treat the displayed status as one fact, then request the source record for the time and legal basis.
The jail averages about 120 people daily according to the sheriff’s inmate-communication page. That group includes pretrial detainees and state- and county-sentenced people, both male and female. The count is not a release total. It does show why the daily roster contains different custody paths and why one lookup cannot explain every departure.
- Release
- The end of a particular custody booking, which may lead to the community or another agency.
- Transfer
- Movement from Haralson County Jail to GDC, another county, or a different authority.
- Time served
- A release based on completion or credit of the confinement ordered by the court.
- Detainer
- A request or hold that may keep a person in custody for another authority.
Haralson Jail Reception Releases
The Detention Division page names Reception as the main point of contact for warrants, bonding, and inmate release. That detail matters because the roster is only the public display. Reception and records staff handle the workflow behind the status, including bond clearance, warrants, court papers, and authorized movement. The source does not publish set release hours, a public exit, or weekend processing times. Those details should be confirmed directly rather than assumed.
Bond can close a jail stay while the criminal case continues. Haralson County publishes professional, property, cash, and transfer-bond rules. The bonding guidelines state that property and cash bonds carry a $20 sheriff fee. Cash-bond funds also have a later refund process that requires proof of the case disposition. Thus, a bond release is a custody event, not a finding that the case ended.
Warrant or hold clearance may affect timing after bond is posted. Court paperwork, another agency’s pickup, transport, and medical needs can also change the actual departure. Ask Reception about the physical custody state. Use the written release record to preserve the answer.
Haralson Release Court Follow-Up
The jail record says that custody changed. The court record often says why. Haralson County Magistrate Court handles early events such as first appearances, preliminary hearings, and warrants. The Clerk of Superior Court files indictments, accusations, sentences, and sentencing packages. A bond order may begin in an early hearing, while a later disposition, sentence, or state-transfer package provides the lasting explanation.
For a certified case result, contact the Haralson County Clerk of Superior Court. If the sentence sends the person to state prison, continue with the Georgia Department of Corrections release path. If the order imposes felony supervision, use DCS Cedartown. Misdemeanor probation follows the county probation office and filed court sentence.
Official documents may also be held by the jail business office. The sheriff’s inmate-communication rules say identification cards, birth certificates, Social Security cards, checks, passbooks, and similar business papers should be mailed directly to the business office rather than the central scanned-mail site. After release, ask the jail about property and official documents that were retained or routed there.
